How DrumStar's sampler makes it easy.

If you've got a good collection of drum samples, turning them into a realistic instrument should be easy. But, when you have to set sample values one at a time, it can become tedious.

That's why, the process was streamlined in DrumStar, to allow you to create better sample maps in less time.

What makes DrumStar easy to use:
  • multi-sample drag and drop
  • automatic level detection
  • automatically sample sorting
  • automatic split creation
  • Global parameter editing

How the sampler makes your drums sound realistic.

A real drummer has a lot of options to vary the sound. They can hit different parts of the drums, hit them harder or softer, mute them after playing, etc.

DrumStar's flexibility allows these and other types of sounds to be modelled. With the right set of samples, DrumStar can imitate almost any sound a real drummer can play.

Why DrumStar sounds realistic:
  • multiple articulations
  • round robin
  • sample mixing
  • smart cross-fading
  • disk streaming

multi-sample drag and drop

You'll be able to select and drag groups of samples onto the sample editor.

You can even filter the samples shown in the browser so that you see only snare samples.

There is also an easy way to select every 2nd or 3rd sample, making it easy to create round robin groups.

automatic level detection

DrumStar automatically detects and adjusts the level of the samples, so you don't have to.

automatically sample sorting

DrumStar can sort a group of samples either by level or by name. So, you can record a bunch of hits at various levels and let DrumStar put them in order for you.

automatic split creation

To create a split where each sample is triggered by a different velocity range, you click on a the velocity cell of a sample and then click on the increment button (labeled '\'). DrumStar will set the velocity ranges for the group automatically.

Global parameter editing

In DrumStar, Settings can be made on groups of samples, making it easy to change velocity, round robin, hit type, and other values.

multiple articulations

Each track can play up to 12 different hit types. You can use these to handle regular hits, rim shots, center hits, edge hits, flams, rolls, etc. You can also give each of the hits a name that will show up in the sequencer.

round robin

DrumStar gives you the ability to alternate between samples for each hit. By using the round robin feature, it's almost impossible to play a drum roll that sounds fake.

sample mixing

DrumStar gives you the ability to assign samples to mix groups which can be adjusted at the track level. You could use them to mix between different samples such as close mics, overhead mics and room mics.

smart cross-fading

DrumStar's sequencer will let you cross-fade between different samples based on a control value to model the openness of a high hat.

Whenever the value changes, it adjusts the start position of the new sample to match the volume of the current sample.

With the right set of samples, it can sound very realistic.

disk streaming

By default, the sequencer loads samples directly from the disk before they actually play. This lets you use large sample libraries without worrying about running out of memory.

When you assign samples to a midi note, those samples will be preloaded to memory so that they can play instantly.

The combination lets you have realistic instruments and realtime playability.
